CBC Goes Green:
Gotcha! CBC has always been green. With all the talk on global warming and climate change, and our role in being better stewards of our environment, we thought it would be fun to point out to you, our generous supporters, that your money not only serves a great cause, but also promotes an organization with great environmental practices. After all, a truly human future needs a truly healthy world! So, please consider a
gift today for the ongoing work of the CBC and help us sustain the human future.
The Sierra Club has put out
this nice little piece on 10 ways to go green at work. We've put their checklist to the test to see how well the CBC is doing. Check out our results and consider using this test for your own home or office.
1. Be bright about light Check! Since all of us at CBC work out of our homes, we have a double incentive to turn off lights when not in use. We pay our own electricity bills! And we use energy saving bulbs too. Thermostats set low sweaters and socks are cheap.
2. Maximize computer efficiency Check! All computers shut down after work is complete. Toner cartridges are recycled and we use refurbished toner cartridges too.
3. Print smarter Check! Since we all work virtually, there is a lot of paperless communication which takes place between staff and volunteers. Files are mainly electronic. And lots of paper recycling taking place in our home offices.
4. Go paperless when possible Check! See above.
5. Ramp up your recycling Check! Anything that can be recycled is recycled.
6. Close the loop Check! We buy recycled as we are able but honestly don't have huge needs for office furniture. We are a lean mean environmental machine.
7. Watch what (and how) you eat Check! We all eat at home. No styrofoam or throw away dishes in our break room. Local, organic and healthy foods are a mainstay. Heck, CBC headquarters even has our own fair trade coffee blend
the human bean : grounds for dignity.
8. Rethink your travel Check! Our board meetings happen via conference calls. We never fly on private jets and love public transportation and carpooling.
9. Reconsider your commute Check! What commute?
10. Create a healthy office environment Check! No toxic cleaning products here.
So, as you continue your support of the CBC, be encouraged that good green work is taking place! For the sake of the human future,
support the CBC today!
