CBC is comprised of a broad network of individuals and exists as a locus of consensus building between a variety of groups. Our 13 Board members include physicians, nurses, public health experts, marketing and finance businessmen, 2 staffers and 1 consultant—Wesley J. Smith, J.D. All share a commitment to a truly human future. The CBC team has had an impact in major news publications, national radio, network TV, national and international speeches, and boasts a portfolio of 15 experts on hand to promptly address key bioethic issues. We are regularly asked for feedback and background by media, individuals and major organizations as well as bodies outside of the U.S. as well as provide speakers for national events.
The CBC Challenges:
Science and medicine do not always apply a human-life-affirming set of standards to their work.
The public at large is generally blind to the long-term risks of this lack of moral anchor in biotechnical fields.
The strong trend in science and medicine is toward the utilitarian commoditization of life which undermines the dignity of all human life.
Not all scientific progress is truly human progress.
Scientific progress is too often presented as truly human progress, without question. Clearly this is no longer the case as it once was; CBC seeks to define truly human progress.
The CBC Mission:
The CBC exists to collaborate in providing resources and a public forum to: educate our culture about the impact of biotechnologies, engage in dialogue about what it means to be human, and to challenge those who influence our culture to use science that is grounded in moral responsibility.
Advancing a culture where biotechnology truly serves a human future.
The CBC Vision:
By working with key influencers and decision makers, CBC seeks to change the bioethical landscape and promote wholly human progress, resulting in a positive and human-affirming cultural conscience in science, medicine and public policy that protects human dignity and defends the most vulnerable to abuse.
